One from the other week.
Decided to bring up the scale of this negative and push out the detail, it could definitely go bigger is what I’ve realised, but for now this is nice. My skills are starting to develop as I’m much happy with the colours on this version, the greens have much more of a deep colour to them and I’ve managed to get rid of the slight yellow cast from before.
What purpose this photograph serves right now I’m not sure, as it doesn’t fit into my Wip for the MA but that doesn’t need to be the case to enjoy it.

(Wip)- Scanned in a few of my recent Chromogenic prints from the last few weeks. Something about scanning negatives seems futile now.
Trying to match colours in scans compared to colours from prints is an impossible task to me and I don’t think I’ll ever be pleased with the way my photographs are reproduced if not printed in the darkroom first.
Of course my mind will probably change when I try something new in the future, but for now this makes me happy.

Anyway here’s one from a recent wandering, I happened to stumble across this somewhat unbelievable scene, it’s unconfirmed to me wether this was some act of nature, or a person, but somehow this apple managed to find itself stuck in between its own branches in which it was grown.

Paul Thek & Peter Hujar - Stay away from nothing

What an absolutely brilliant book this was, a true treat to read through.
Being a rather large fan of Hujar’s work for a number of years now I’ve always tried to keep up with any publications made relating to him, as to expand my knowledge. At first there were rather few, but now more seem to be coming, maybe due to the success of Peter Hujar’s day published by @magichour.press and the recent show of his photographs at raven row in London.

The book is a collection of letters sent from Thek to Hujar throughout a number of years, which are occasionally juxtaposed with photographs from Hujar. There’s a few photographs I don’t remember seeing from Hujar here, (which is always fun to discover).

The editing of the book really highlights the tenderness of the relationship between them both. And has made me want to delve more into Thek’s own work as it’s one I’m not fully familiarised with.
Overall this book is an excellent, and a wonderful addition to the shelf, although I think I’ll have it sat on the table for awhile, probably to come back to it and cry a little.

Illuminance is a book I really struggle to write about, the phases I encounter when turning the pages is hard to put into words.
But to me that’s part of what makes this work special. And I don’t think anything I could write would further any insight into this spectacular book.
(So if anything this is an appreciation post of sorts, not a review)
There’s a bleak image of a whale in this work, whose eye startled me greatly when I first turned onto the page. It’s a photograph I’ve struggled to forget since.

A few work prints from last week, finally caught up on the rolls I developed at the start of the course.
Making myself a collection of small work prints to refer back to as I formulate ideas on what the larger idea is of my MA project.
Then I’ll take the selected images back into the dark to put to scale when needed.

Fantastic new work from @jemsoutham
Had a wonderful chat at his book stand at BOP last weekend, telling us about his new imprint @raftpress and upcoming releases.
Very grateful for him taking the time to talk to the two of us for so long on such a busy day.
The work itself is stunning, as per usual coming from Jem, and finding out all the photographs were made in one afternoon was really mind blowing.
Greatly appreciate that there was a more affordable soft copy version of the book for students like myself.
Definitely pick yourself up a copy while you can!

Spent the morning testing out some new paper and pushing the scale of some photographs.
I finally managed to get my hands on some Matte Fuji crystal archive paper, which I didn’t have to cut down myself!
Finding the finish a lot more enjoyable on this stock, as the glossy makes for all kinds of mess, fingerprints scratches etc.
